The Doric Column 3.1 *New*
« on: Jun 29, 2007, 02:35:26 PM »
Weel it's bin a gey lang time syne A scrievt ane o 'es columns, so A thocht it wis aboot time A got me erse inta gear an got anither ane daen. A lot's happint syne A last scrievt ane o 'ese - A've flittit, stairtit a nyow jobbie an turint anither eer aaler. Is 'at gaan tae mak me anither eer wiser? Weel, A doot it.  ;)

Weether

Fit a reddup it's bin 'es past fyow wikks. Ere's yer fowk on 'i telly aye gaan on aboot yer Global Waarmin' an foo wir aa gaan tae be roastit alive, an fit hiv we got? Rain, 'at's fit. Pishin' doon an stottin twa fit aff 'i grun. A wis up in Elgin a puckle wikks syne an 'i rain wis sae bad 'i hale o 'i toon wis unner watter. It wis up leevel wi 'i doors on ma car. It's bin rainin in Aiberdeen fer 'i past twa wikks. Ilka day.. an it hisnae bin mair'n 10c. Gin ye didnae ken better, ye'd sweer it wis winter.

Jist lookit Ingland an aa. gey near 'i hale kwintry's unner watter. Hale toons o fowk drivven oot their hames and waatchin as aathin they ane is washt doon 'i street.

Bit politeeshuns, numpty's 'at they are, still canna see't. "Aye", spake ane, "We ken it's bin 'i caalest Mey an June ivver, bit ye hiv tae look at 'i lang term". Gie's a break!

Animals

Ae expinse aifter anither. Ma cat Bertie hid tae be taen tae 'i vet last wikk. He wis favourin's left ear and widnae leave it alane. Aye paa'in at it he wis. An 'en, oot o naewey, fan he shook 'is heid, 'is ear stairtit rattlin'. Lik a bairns rattle. Sae aff doon 'i vet we wint.

Nae a fan o 'i vet is oor Bertie, an tae say he wis aa in a panic wid be pittin't mildly. He wis aa ower 'i place, myowin an greetin. A felt richt sorry fer 'im. Onywey, he's gotten 'imsel an ear infection. It wis aa 'i wax an pus 'at wis rattlin roon inside's heid. £40 fer drops. An 'en 'i vet tells me she thinks he micht hae a hairt murmur. "Bit it cwid jist be cos he's panicin'. Bring 'im backin anither month."

Noo, A love 'im tae bits, bit gin she kens he's jist gaan tae panic's muckle neist time, she's nae gaan tae be ablins tae suss oot gin it is a murmur. An' at'll be anither £40. Fit tae dee, fit tae dee.

Reunions

Fit happint? Oot o naewey it seems lik ilka poster 'at ivver postit o'er at TWH his cam back. Aa't eence. Fowk ye hinna seen syne twa eer ago. Fowk ye nivver thocht ye'd hear fae again. Wis it jist coincidence 'at aabidy cam back in ae wikk, or is 'ere some ither mair sinister haun at wirk?

Onywey, 'at's eneuch fer noo. Gottae brak masel in slowly, ye ken.

Glad to see ya back at it, ya Ol' Codger.

The weather here's been interesting.  The temps been between 17C and 20C lately, with afternoon thunderstorms.  The storms only last an hour, maybe two, and they're intense.  Lots and lots of rain.  And a few times, hail...one storm had inch-and-a-half size hail.  I kid you not...it was all over our back deck, so we had a clear view of it.

Sorry to hear about Bertie.  Maybe if you cleaned 'em out once or twice a month with an inexpensive cleaner, you can avoid having a repeat episode.  I know, hindsight's always 20/20.

I'm glad people have been showing up again, both here and at TWH.  I wonder if it'll last?  I hope so...some of these blokes are good to have around.

I can almost completely understand what you said. I did wonder Eezer, is it easy for you to write in Doric or do you have to think when typing it out how to spell everything? I just wondered versus English the ease of use for you for typing it up.

it's not easy at all!!! even though i speak Doric (unless it's to someone i know won't understand) i was taught to read and write in English, so reading and writing in Doric is almost completely alien to me. i actually have to think about what i'm typing, how the words are constructed and obviously, how to spell it all.

glad you understood it :)
